The Phoenix Coyotes (6-2-0) host the Los Angeles Kings (6-4-0) at Jobing.com Arena Saturday in the second of six meetings between the Pacific Division rivals this season.
The two teams last met in the season opener on Oct. 3 when the Coyotes came away with a 6-3 victory at STAPLES Center. Radim Vrbata scored two goals in the game and Ilya Bryzgalov made 30 saves.
▪ The Coyotes are currently 6-2-0 through eight games this season and are in first place in the Pacific Division. They enter Saturday’s matchup with the Kings riding a four-game winning streak, their longest streak since winning five games in a row from Dec. 31, 2007 – Jan. 8, 2008. The Coyotes have allowed two or fewer goals in seven consecutive games.
▪ The Coyotes are coming off a 3-2 overtime win vs. the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday. Adrian Aucoin scored the game-winner in overtime and added an assist while Petr Prucha’s goal with 2:40 remaining in the third period tied the game at two and forced overtime.
▪ Ilya Bryzgalov enters the game with a 6-1-0 record, a 1.26 GAA, a .949 SV% and two shutouts in seven games this season and has allowed just nine goals. Entering play on Friday, Bryzgalov leads all starting NHL goaltenders in goals against average, save percentage and shutouts (2).
